MP’s have finished voting in the Conservative Leadership Contest and the final two are Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss. It was a very close race, but Liz Truss narrowly beat Penny Mordaunt into third place (Sunak: 137, Truss: 113, Mordaunt: 105). We recently saw “squabbling” between Truss and Sunak during the ITV debate featuring the five remaining candidates. The final debate was cancelled when Truss and Sunak pulled out, probably due to the perceived damage being done to the image of the Conservative Party.
Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak will now go to the Conservative Party Hustings over the parliamentary recess. There are around 200,000 Conservative Members who will decide who the next Prime Minister of the UK will be.
