I wrote this song a few weeks ago. Initially, I had a chord progression on my guitar, which I “discovered” after messing about for a couple of hours. Sometimes that happens, a tune will pop out of nowhere. The words came from the situation, I found myself in, namely, “lockdown”. I didn’t want to do a “covid” song, and the phrase “waiting for a rainbow”, naturally led to “I’ve been sitting in the rain”. It’s hard to describe the song writing process, but, in my experience, the ideas seem to flood into your mind, leaving a few unfinished bits that need a LOT of hard work.
LYRICS
I’ve been sitting in the rain, waiting for a rainbow
Counting my Blessings one by one, waiting for a better time will come
It wasn’t long ago, we were all together
Lauging, drinking, having fun. Now we’re waiting for a better time to come
Looking ahead, what do you see
Does your future still include me
Or not
Lying in the dark, thinking about you
So very far away, I’m praying for a brand new day
Our plans together will just have to wait Dear
Till all this madness has gone. We’ll just have to carry on
Looking ahead, what do you see?
Does your future still include me?
Or not.
I’ve been sitting in the rain, waiting for a rainbow
Counting my Blessings one by one, waiting for a better time to come
I’m waiting for a better time to come
We’re hoping that a better time to come
