With things really hotting up in the Gulf, it is time to remind people of the Gulf of Tonkin incident in 1964, during which the USS Maddox was attacked by three North Vietnamese torpedo boats. The USA did not respond to this attack, effectively leaving the USS Maddox undefended. The USA also claimed a second incident had happened two days later on August 4th 1964. This incident never actually took place, however, the reporting of the two incidents led Congress to increase US military presence in South Vietnam.

In the Gulf of Oman, we have already had two ships damaged by limpet mines and now we hear reports that two ships have been torpedoed.

It is now perfectly realistic to expect a war between Iran and the USA and its allies.

We can only wait and see what happens.
